My Legal Practices
How I Can Help
Landlord Tenant Law
I have represented many of the Triad's largest property managers and individual landlords as well as tenants for 30 plus years. I offer flat fee evictions in small claims court. I handle issues appealed to the District Court including unfit conditions, claims for rent re-imbursement, and unfair trade practices. I negotiate and draft commercial leases.
I have represented insurance companies and their insureds in lawsuits about car wrecks, construction accidents, and coverage disputes for over 30 years. I also represent insureds in claims against other insurance companies. What does your policy mean? What is your claim worth? I'll help you get what you deserve.
Civil Litigation and Personal Injury
I have successfully tried personal injury cases, car wrecks, construction accidents, will disputes, and business disputes. I will prepare a persuasive demand package to the insurance company so you recover the maximum value for your claim. I will prepare a winning litigation strategy with you and with attention to your budget.
Wills and Estates
Preserve your assets for your family
I will prepare wills, powers of attorney, and health care powers of attorney to meet your family's needs. I can help you adminster your loved one's estate. If a will dispute ends up in court, I have that trial experience also.
Traffic and Criminal Law
Save your insurance premiums and protect your reputation
Were you caught speeding, drinking after driving, or another minor criminal matter? Where possible, I'll limit the effect on your insurance premiums, obtain dismissal of the charges, or expunge erasable
John has helped us with several landlord tenant disputes over the years. He has always responded to our request quickly and professionally. He has been a advocate for the property management industry and volunteered his time to help others. There is no one else I trust when it comes to these issues. - Phillip
I hired Mr. Fonda to help me with the eviction of some tenants I had renting my home. I had never had to do this and [k]new very little of the whole process. He was very knowledgeable, helpful and patient with me and always available to answer my questions (and I had many). He went above and beyond my expectations and I would highly recommend him to anyone in need. - Tina.
I've been a landlord here in Winston-Salem for nearly 35 years. Unfortunately, I've had to evict several tenants during that time. Occasionally, i would hire an attorney to handle a case for me for various reasons. I would only hire Mr. John Fonda ever again if i needed one. I've had occasion to use his services a couple of times recently and am convinced he is the foremost expert on landlord - tenant law in the state of North Carolina. Mr. Fonda has an amazing knowledge in all that encompasses. Additionally, he has always shown great respect to myself, my former tenants and the court. I would give Mr. Fonda my highest recommendation to anyone requiring an attorney with respect to rental matters. Great Job!! - Tim.
Very professional he communicated with me throughout the process. I won my small claim with Mr. John Fonda’s help. I will definitely call on him again should I need his expertise. - Diedra

Experienced Legal Counsel
I've enjoyed practicing law here in Winston-Salem since 1987. I worked for 29 years with a local law firm with a broad general practice before joining a major regional insurance defense firm for almost two years. I am happy to have finally open my own firm in 2018. I have always devoted a significant part of my practice to civil litigation concentrated in landlord-tenant and insurance matters. According to Martindale.com, my peers rate me as having high legal ability with very high ethical standards. I am a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, The North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, and The Forsyth County Bar Association. I am also an associate member of the Property Manager's Division of Winston-Sale Regional Association of Realtors where I periodically teach classes on landlord-tenant topics. Beyond the practice of law I am a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church and serve as lay leader in my local congregation. I greatly enjoy hiking and kayaking and spending time with my wife of nearly 30 years, our two daughters, and two Maltese dogs.
